Vice DMU turns were commonplace for several years in the Derby area. In August 1989 2 load 3/4 rakes of stock were utilised (along with a 150) on the Derby – Crewe route. The power was 2 x 20 spare off coal work due miner’s holidays and as below DMU times were just about kept. The locos were normally shunt released at Crewe, at Derby an extra pair or a run round, Good fun and getting us on a route unfamiliar with us and 20’s on passenger!
