Bow Brickhill station around 6am on September 5th 2024
The first of two fast cars deposited me at a deserted Bow Brickhill station around 6am. I was soon joined by a fit blonde in running shorts awaiting the train. Then her male colleagues arrived, one had to go into full stretch, jog on the spot mode all before 0620 in the morning!
150141 arrived right time and soon had me at St Johns where “TC” was waiting, fast car at the ready. We arrived at Holt station with plenty time spare and it was reassuring to hear the distinctive hoot of the 25 on approach, the previous day due to a failed kettle a DMU had done the “rat’s” turn, the “rat” doing the kettle turn!

25309’s rake included a superbly restored Gresley buffet E9128E in her load 5. We did several return trips with much thrash particularly on the Westbound runs. We did take a time out to rake in the kettle 4277 on the other rake. Passing the shed at Weybourne we were surprised to see Ridgmont on the blind of DMU 51188.

I awoke from my slumbers to enjoy 25309 in full thrash mode leaving Weybourne on the climb up to Holt, passing the halt non stop. In improving weather “TC” drove us home and the 1947 Bedford – Bletchley was easily made.
