25309 running day, North Norfolk Railway, Sat June 22nd

The star of the day, 25309 running round prior to the 1020 departure from Holt

With the fast car leaving Bedford at 7am, i did the more reliable bus and rail service via Luton to make departure time, the Bletchley – Bedford, once again was operating a one unit service, good eh!

The fast car with 2 of Bedford’s finest headed East along quiet roads, at Barton Mills, Mk III 12049 was parked up atop a low loader. “TC” was to advise the coach was en route from the Northampton and Lamport Railway to Yarmouth CS of filming fame.

We arrived at Holt just as 25309 was arriving with the ECS from Sheringham. An interesting rake with Mk I Suburban 48001, plus normal Mk I’s 21103, 3868 and 25189 also in tow. 25309 was soon clagging East, memories of many long lost trips to Welshpool behind 25’s soon returned. In total we did 4 round trips, great fun, pretty busy and much thrash from the immaculate 25309.

25309 at Weybourne with the 1100 Sheringham – Holt

The sun shines on 25309 and stock leaving Kelling Heath Halt with the 1245 Sheringham – Holt

The sun produced at Sheringham as 25309 waited departure time with the 1435 to Holt

Last thrash for us, 25309 at Holt with the 1610 ex Sheringham

As we returned home a “Vote Liz Truss” Poster in her Norfolk constituency heartlands raised a few comments! With the 1947 Bedford – Bletchley caped, it was a lovely 700 unit complete with ironing board seats for the far more comfortable F77 bus home from Luton.
