Enjoying the thrash on the recently reinstated independent line between Risboro and Thame Jn on the 1410 ex Risboro ,
After only getting one trip on 26043 at the Chinnor Gala 2 weeks prior due to a loco fault it was good news when the running day was announced. A fast car picked me up in Leighton around 9am and we were at Chinnor 40 minutes later. Unfortunately steady drizzle then set in, dampening spirits.
At just £15 the day rover was a bargain, issued on a proper Edmonson ticket something you dont see so much on preserved railways these days. So we enjoyed 5 return trips behind 26043 , (about 40 miles total) she sounded superb on load 5 on the climb out of Risboro back to Chinnor on most runs.

26043 stands in Chinnor Yard ready to work the 1335 to Risboro.
Risboro’s station is close to Risboro Ranger’s (Spartan South Midlands league) football ground and we were surprised to see 4 Risboro “Ultras” complete with drum heading for their home game with Tring. At 1653 just before 26043 left with the last train a huge roar went up from the ground, we assume this was Risboro’s late winner against Tring, final score 3-2.
The last run back in bright, cheerful weather was perhaps the best run and on arrival back at Chinnor a good few simply stared at the immaculate 26 , “what a beast!”.
