33201 the first of the “slims”

33201 emerged new as D6586 from the BRCW Smethwick Works in February 1962. 6586 was the first of the 12 strong narrow bodied Cromptons for specific use on the Tonbridge – Battle’s confined tunnel sections.

Over the years 33201 has worked from Holyhead to Fishguard, Manchester to Dunstable and all over the Southern many times. She was renumbered from 6586 to 33201 in Jan 74, stored at Stewarts Lane in Sep 93 and finally withdrawn in October 93. She was sold into preservation 4 years later being at various preserved lines incl Chinnor but it is at Shackerstone where GK recently sampled her that she has become a very popular preserved “slim”.
