August 1985 moves – thanks to “TC”
The summer of 1985 was my first one in railway employment. On the plus side I had the benefit of “boxes” and “priv travel”, but on the minus side I had to work two weekends in three. As I was new into the job, I didn’t have much annual leave for the first year, this being earned pro rata as I worked. Working two weekends out of three meant I missed a fair few summer Saturdays. My roster was based on 9 hour 15 minute shifts, working four days a week, so on my weekends off, I got Friday / Saturday one week and Monday / Tuesday the next giving me five days off.
I had two “long weekends” during August 1985, and probably purchased a seven day “priv” all line for these. The “boxes” were usually kept back for the week on the rota where I was off Wednesday / Thursday.
The “moves” are listed below, the loco’s underlined are the “winners”. I wasn’t that great at logging DMU’s or HST’s though, hence a few gaps.
Looking back on these now, a couple of favourite moves are…
33014 might seem like a typical Eastleigh Crompton, and on the Channel Island’s boat train, where I was probably hoping for a “73”. But this was the only time I had this one as it was one of the early withdrawl’s.
45070 was one of the last peaks I scored. I had the “gen” but only able to do it on the return.
