LNWR’S advance ticket pricing seems pretty shambolic. An advance MK-Crewe was a bargain £5.55 yet a Leighton – Crewe connecting into the same train at MK was £11-55!!! So it was the fast bus that got me from Leighton to the Keynes, Evora 3228 on the X3 doing the business.
730224/730220 lightly loaded up front as usual, left MK a few minutes down but Rugby was reached, via the old line in just 21m 17s for the 32 miles. Here 86259 plus 90049/004 were stabled but little else, loco wise was seen en route to Crewe,
A painless Cheshire Day Ranger purchase for £20.75 at Crewe saw me just make the 197’s on the Nantwich fill in move. Not much of note on Gresty Road just 68034 and 68009 outside the depot. Back at Crewe shiny new 93003/93006 arrived in one of the South bays on a Crewe – Derby RTC move whilst 67013 was photted leaving with the 1030 Manchester – Cardiff.
Then the “4 skip” move followed with 67025 leading the 0855 Cardiff – Manchester for the 20 minute wait till she returned me to Crewe, for the plus 25 onto 67017, then the same move with the loud 67029. These hauled services are a pleasure to travel on, nice clean smart Mk 4 stock, good timekeeping and not too wedged. I had to bail at Wilmslow off the fourth skip 67012, for a lovely Pendo back to Crewe for the 1913 Euston with 730232/730205.
A rapid 5m 56m Bletchley – Leighton storm on 730215/730221 on the stopper was my fastest BY-LB point to point ever!
