Chiltern power variety, Thurs Nov 9th 2023

The recent reopening via a new alignment of the Risboro – Aylesbury branch after months of closure due HS2 works has seen freight return to the Chiltern main line. Big trains too. A selection of phots from the day plus some archive images too.

A grubby 66522 arrives at Aylesbury with the Harrow (via Wendover) RHTT. The muck on the loco reminded me of the 70s when an awful lot of freight power were in similar states!

With 66519 tailing the RHTT heads South from Aylesbury

Making an impressive racket, 56091 opens up as she heads 6Z22 Quinton – Willesden DC spoil empties, 60046 on the rear adding more weight for the Grid to pull out of Risboro

20 minutes after the grid, 66741 crosses onto the up (and Aylesbury branch)road South of Risboro with 6M58 Tytherington – Quainton loaded stone

The Phoenix Trail offers a well surfaced cycle/walking route along the former Risboro – Thame branch which closed in 1991. The rails survive embedded in Bledlow level crossing

Thanks to Glenn Jones for this cracking view of 47540 having arrived with the 0645 Marylebone – Aylesbury and will return on the 0800 Aylesbury – Marylebone (via Risboro) on April 6th 1989
