Only 6 87’s left in service, 87001, 87002, 87004, 87010, 87012 and 87019

The doomed list..

87003 – 280205 1B14 2006 Wolves – Euston, then 5B14 ECS to Wembley. 87003 remained spare at Wembley until 150305 when it ran to Willesden TMD. The loco had been stopped on 131204, but had been reinstated in Jan 2005 as cover for 87012 and 87019 while they were being repainted. It arrived on Willesden the same day as 87019 returned to traffic.

87005 – 030903 1M22 0936 Glasgow – Euston. Loco failure, service terminated at Nuneaton. Currently stored at Willesden TMD

87006 – 260904 1S86 1449 Euston – Glasgow. Loco returned South in 5Z14 1330 Polmadie – Wembley ECS on 29/300904 with 87014/87024 1 coach and 1 DVT. 5Z14 ran as far as Preston on 290904 and continued to Wembley on 300904 as 5Z62. 87006 which was on the rear, ran round at Warrington and hauled the convoy to Wembley. (see 87024)

“Red Cow” catches the 5Z62 convoy with 87006 dragging 87014 and 87024 and 2 coaches South through Leighton Buzzard on September 30th 2004

87007 – 081204 1M19 1740 Glasgow – Euston, then 5M19 ECS to Wembley. Could see further use with GBRf along with 87008 and 87025

87007 at Birmingham Int’l with the 1206 Euston – Birmingham on December 1st 2004, sadly “City of Manchester” had only a week left in traffic with Virgin

Both locos now shown as “maintenance/repair”. No idea which loco worked 1R13 and which one was dead. I reckon 87013 worked the train as it was still coupled to the same set as on Monday with 87033 dead on the rear. On 251104 it worked 4Z22 0945 Thameshaven – Carlisle Yard which was formed of 30 “MRA’s” between Willesden and Crewe Basford Hall. The train was terminated/recessed at Crewe, no idea on forwarding power

87014 – 230904 1D88 1725 Euston – Holyhead (to Crewe). On 240904 it worked 5Z87 1130 Longsight – Polmadie ECS forward from Crewe, replacing 87004 which in turn did the 1323 Holyhead – Euston forward from Crewe. 87014 returned South dead in train on 5Z14 convoy on 29/300904. 87022 – 200904 1A85 1719 Wolves – Euston which started at Birmingham NS due to late running of the Northbound working. On 230904 it was shown as Bletchley thunderbird. Made its way to Oxley by 270904. On 280904 worked 0Z13 0939 Oxley – Willesden TMD. On 271004 87022 was dragged dead in 6K51 2102 Willesden  Brent – Crewe LNWR depot by 20304/20312 presumably for a repaint in DRS livery. 6K51 is a returning flask train, rare to feature an 87! On 301104 87022 piloted 66407 from Carlisle to Basford Hall on 4M44 0615 Coatbridge – Daventry, returning light back to Carlisle.

87023 – 311204 1A71 1415 Liverpool – Euston, then ECS to Wembley.

87024 – 250904 1A79 1735 Liverpool – Euston. 87024 was dragged dead on the rear  of 1S86 to Glasgow on 260904, (hauled by 87006). Worked 5Z14 South on 29/300904 as far as Warrington. 87024 failed with a DSD fault near Warrington and 87006 worked forward

“Red Cow” catches debranded 87027 the legendary “Wolf of Badenoch” passing Old Linslade with the 1500 Euston – Manchester on July 15th 2004. ” 2 weeks later the legend was laid to rest…

87028 – 070904   – 1F20 1600 Euston – Liverpool, failed at Hanslope Jn (loss of air). Rugby thunderbird 87006 assisted forward. Train cancelled at Crewe due late running. 87006 (presumably) ran round and worked 1A21 1935 Liverpool – Euston which started from Crewe.  87028 is then believed to have worked 5A21 2338 Euston – Wembley ECS before going to Willesden TMD
