D5314/26014 remembered

26014 looking good at Brechin during the “Sulzerfest” on May 2nd 2004

My BR memories of 5314/26014 are limited, i first spotted her at Inverness depot in July 72.

My first haulage behind 26014 came late afternoon on August 7th 1975 where she was paired up with celebrity “skinhead” 24113 on the 1642 to Glasgow which i did all the way!

I was at Kyle on a very frosty February 2nd 1976 and 26014 arrived right time with the 0705 Dingwall – Kyle. On joining the front TSO on the return 1107 Kyle-Inverness I was advised by the train crew to move to a compo “as i would be warmer”, 26014’s boiler had failed! At Achnasheen 26009 had been removed from the down service to steam our chilly train back to Inverness.

The Kyle semaphores are off for 26014 to arrive with the 0705 Dingwall – Kyle on February 2nd 1976

Occasional sightings followed of this always blue liveried 26 followed but it wasn’t until May 2003 that i sampled the now green liveried 26014 at Brechin on the superb Caledonian railway. More recent visits have seen my mileage improved on this superb small Sulzer, a loco that has worked passenger services all over Scotland not forgetting English Kings X turns, including Dunstable in 1959. 26014 a true survivor..
