The 1980 timetable is dated up to the 10th May 1981, although the 1981 timetable does not start until 1st June 1981.
Like the previous year, I have had another detailed look at what changes were made to the loco hauled “Bedford Commuters”. This information is from the 1981/1982 timetable and the relevant WTT. One change that I have found is that 1C51 13.12 Nottingham – St. Pancras (14.37 at Bedford) no longer ran after May 29th 1981. However 1M21 12.10 Sheffield – St. Pancras now stops at Bedford at 14.14.

2G22 on Friday until 4th September formed 5D00 19.16 Bedford – Nottingham CS. On a Friday from 11th September this train formed 5J88 20.25 Bedford – Cricklewood CS.
1F07 on arrival at Leicester formed 5C12 20.40 Leicester – Bedford, apart from on a Friday when it ran back to Cricklewood CS.
During the week we know that loco hauled sets were stabled in the “new” carriage sidings constructed by the river when Bedford station was rebuilt. This was all in preparation for the electrification. Looking at what I have said with the evening ECS moves, 2G18, 2G22 and 1F07 all appear to finish at Bedford on Monday – Thursday evenings. These sets would then form 2C12, 2C19 and 2C22 the following morning.
