Notes:
Reading – Oxford moves again. .

Dealing with Reading – Oxford, I have 47468, 47483, 47511 and 50043. 47468 is listed on Railgen-Archive for 1E63 11.35 Poole – Newcastle between Reading and Birmingham NS. 47483 is shown for 1O19 07.52 Newcastle – Poole from Birmingham NS – Reading, which would put it in position to work back north on 1M23 14.55 Bournemouth – Liverpool. This leaves 47511 for the 09.20 Brighton – Manchester (47511 had been on the Nuneaton drags the previous day), and 50043 for 1C40 15.00 Paddington – Hereford.

Dealing with Oxford – Reading, I have 47081, 47406 and 47492. 47406 is listed for 1O15 09.24 Manchester – Poole, between Birmingham NS and Reading. This leaves 47081 and 47492, one for 1V41 11.22 Liverpool – Paddington and one for 1V48 14.38 Birmingham NS – Paddington. Given his previous trips, I would suspect 47492 is more likely for 1V48 as this train (from Phil’s trips ) was always an ETH loco.

Reading – Oxford moves again.

From Reading to Oxford I have the train details and 47427, 47545 and 47562. 47427 is listed on Railgen-Archive for 1E63 11.35 Poole – Newcastle, between Reading and Birmingham NS, which is a match. Also listed on Railgen Archive is 47545 for 1A41 09.50 Paignton – Paddington (Paddington arrive 13.32), and 47562 for 1V68 19.25 Birmingham NS – Didcot. Based on this information, I would suggest Phil had 47545 on 1M50 09.20 Brighton – Manchester, and 47562 on 1C40 15.00 Paddington – Hereford.

From Oxford to Reading I have the train details and 47429, 47436 and 47535. 47429 is listed for 1O15 09.24 Manchester – Poole between Birmingham NS and Reading. There is no information for 47436 or 47535.

Notes:
Phil’s haulages for this day are proving a bit of a puzzle to match up.

Dealing with the morning first and he has 40056 listed for “Larbert – Stirling” and 40068 listed for “Stirling – Larbert”. The only train listed for Larbert – Stirling is the 07.49 Edinburgh – Dunblane which is booked a DMU, so I assume that 40056 is in fact an error and should actually read “Stirling – Larbert”.

With 40056 now changed to “Stirling – Larbert”, I have two locomotives for the two morning trains from Dundee (06.49 & (07.39), but I don’t know which loco did which train. Gen from the Class 40 Motherlist for the previous evening puts both class 40’s in Dundee, 40056 on 2L61 20.44 Glasgow QS – Dundee and 40068 on 1L59 19.35 Glasgow – Dundee.

Phil’s afternoon haulages between Perth and Dundee and vice versa proved a bit of a puzzle to match up.

Dealing with Perth to Dundee first, I know the three locomotives involved, 40056, 47102 and 47162 and I know the three services used, from his diary file. I can match 47102 from the “gen” on Railgen Archive for 1A36 13.35 Glasgow QS – Aberdeen. 40056 is also listed for 2L61 20.44 Glasgow QS – Dundee so I suspect Phil had it on 2L46 14.44 Glasgow QS – Dundee. This would leave 47162 as the loco for 2L53 16.54 Glasgow QS – Dundee.

Looking at Dundee – Perth, the three locomotives involved were 40012, 47570 and 47710, and again I know the three services involved. 40012 is listed on Railgen Archive for 1T35 13.40 Aberdeen – Glasgow QS. 47570 is listed for 1A31 11.35 Glasgow QS – Aberdeen, so I suspect it returned with 1T42 15.35 Aberdeen – Glasgow QS. Likewise, 47710 is listed for 1A49 15.35 Glasgow QS – Aberdeen, and I suspect it returned with 1T58 19.50 Aberdeen – Glasgow QS.

Phil has the same DMU listed for the 07.49 Edinburgh – Dunblane and the 08.25 Perth – Edinburgh, which in theory is an error unless the 08.25 from Perth didn’t actually start at Perth that morning.

Notes:
Another puzzle matching up Phil’s haulages between Ipswich and Norwich.

He has 47566 listed for Liverpool St. – Norwich and 47571 listed for Norwich – Liverpool St.

He also has 47566, 47581 and 47583 listed for Ipswich – Norwich, and 47565, 47566 and 47569 listed for Norwich – Ipswich.

The only way I can see 47566 fitting in this is as follows. After working 1N18 08.30 Liverpool St. – Norwich, it returned on 1N27 11.42 Norwich – Liverpool St. after being shunt released. This would put it in London at 13.39, and in position for 1K32 15.30 Liverpool St. – Yarmouth. No idea on the workings of the other locomotives though.

Notes:
Again, I have two locomotives for the 06.49 and 07.39 departures from Dundee, but unable to say which loco worked which service. Class 40 motherlist places 40162 in Dundee the previous evening off 1L59 19.35 Glasgow QS – Dundee.

Phil’s afternoon haulages between Perth and Dundee and vice versa proved a bit of a puzzle to match up.

Dealing with Perth to Dundee first, I know the three locomotives involved, 26031, 47102 and 47223 and I know the three services used, from his diary file. I can match 47223 from the “gen” on Railgen Archive for 1A36 13.35 Glasgow QS – Aberdeen. I cannot confirm which services 26031 and 47102 worked.

Looking at Dundee – Perth, the three locomotives involved were 27032, 40101 and 47707. I am unable to prove which loco did which train. I am also unable to say which loco (26011 or 40162) worked 2T08 06.49 from Dundee and which loco did 2T11 07.39 from Dundee.

47112 is a match on Railgen-Archive for 1M51 09.42 Poole – Manchester, and the timings given by Phil for 47278 would suggest this worked 1E90 11.28 Poole – Newcastle Relief.

47558 is a match for 1A51 11.40 Worcester Shrub Hill – Paddington, so 47471 must have worked 1V48 14.38 Birmingham NS – Paddington

Again I am unable to prove which locomotive worked which train from Dundee that morning. Phil has three 27’s listed for “Stirling – Larbert”, so I assume one train was a pair. Railgen-Archive has 27018 shown for the previous day’s 1L26 21.10 Glasgow QS – Dundee.

47551 17.17 Oxford – Paddington Oxford – Paddington 63.5
45115 19.14 St. Pancras – Derby St. Pancras – Bedford 49.75

Notes:
Phil’s haulages between Reading and Oxford again proved to be a puzzle to match up.

I know he had 47437, 50047 and 50048 between Reading and Oxford. 47437 is shown on Railgen-Archive for 1O19 07.55 Newcastle – Poole between Birmingham NS (booked departure 12.18) and Reading (booked arrival 14.15), which only fits with 1M23 14.55 Bournemouth – Liverpool. 50047 is also shown on Railgen-Archive for 1V64 16.23 Manchester – Paddington forward from Birmingham NS, and I would suggest this is the return of 1M07 13.50 Paddington – Liverpool. This leaves 50048 for 1B58 10.50 Paddington – Worcester Shrub Hill, and Railgen-Archive puts this in Paddington off 1A45 07.47 Oxford – Paddington.

I know he had 50020 and 50048 between Oxford and Reading. Looking at his northbound moves, we know 50048 was on 1B58 10.50 Paddington – Worcester Shrub Hill, so 50020 must have been on 1A51 11.46 Worcester Shurb Hill – Paddington.

Regarding 50048, I am fairly certain that I have read somewhere that the loco and stock off 1B58 10.50 Paddington – Worcester Shrub Hill, ran empty from Worcester to Birmingham to form 1V48 14.38 Birmingham NS – Paddington. I have now confirmed this is the diagram, see 50045’s moves for 14th November 1981.

50003 15.00 Paddington – Hereford Reading – Oxford 27.5
50045 14.38 Birmingham NS – Paddington Oxford – Paddington 63.5
45107+45147 18.12 St. Pancras – Derby St. Pancras – Bedford 49.75

Notes:
Another puzzle with Phil’s haulages between Reading and Oxford. Phil had 47105, 47551 and 50003 northbound and 47105 and 50002 southbound.

47105 is listed on Railgen-Archive for 1O15 09.20 Manchester – Poole and 1E63 11.40 Poole – Leeds/Newcastle between Birmingham NS and Reading and back, two trains Phil travelled on.
47551 is also listed for 1M51 09.42 Poole – Manchester, so 50003 must have been on 1C40 15.00 Paddington – Hereford.

50045’s workings also back up my theory regarding 50048 on 19th October 1981.

I have double checked Phil’s class 45 list, as a pair north from London is generally a lot more uncommon than a pair southbound. Phil has 45107 and 45147 both listed for “London – Bedford”.

50387+56149 13.28 Bletchley – Bedford St. Johns (listed in file as to Bedford Midland Road?) 16

Notes:
Phil has these listed as “Bedford Midland Road”, rather than “Bedford St. John’s”. The times listed match the timetable for Bedford St. John’s. Did the trains actually run from Bedford Midland Road on this day, which would explain this trip and why, or is this an error and the train ran from Bedford St. Johns. If it did, was this just a spotting trip to Bletchley as nothing else listed? Any gen welcome.
