Unable to identify 45069’s train. There is a 6K68 (FX) 08.45 Cricklewood – Nuneaton CCE working, booked Bedford 10.02/10.26. There is also 4A61 08.30 Cricklewood RTS – Forders Sidings (Binliner). I don’t think it is 4A61 as this was booked to run round at Bedford North, and usually the job involved going to Forders, with maybe a “bail” at Bedford on the return.

45127+45147 is another puzzle. This could be 1E16 09.53 St. Pancras – Sheffield, which was booked to pass Cricklewood around 10.00 and Wellingborough 10.57. 1E16 was booked non stop St. Pancras – Leicester, so I am unsure.

Notes:
Phil notes that the DMU set 51591 arrived Bedford at 13.20. My guess is that there was a swop of DMU’s, with 51591 coming empty to Bedford, with another set running to Luton to pick up 51591’s next booked working, 2C37 13.03 to St. Pancras.

45126 St. Pancras (23.48) – Cricklewood (00.05) 5
Notes:
The timings don’t really add up for this day against the WTT. 47432 could be an early 5J88 19.32 Bedford – Cricklewood CS (booked ECS off 2G18 17.12 St. Pancras – Bedford). I suspect 45073’s first trip up to St. Pancras is a light engine, given that Phil shows it with only 8 minutes at St. Pancras. The nearest ECS timewise for it to work back would be 5J88 22.10 ex St. Pancras, with the stock off 1C85 19.41 Leicester – St. Pancras. 45073’s last move back to St. Pancras might be an early 5D26, 22.48 from Cricklewood which was the stock for 1D26 02.00 Newspapers to Nottingham. 45126 could be 5J88 23.50 ex St. Pancras and the ECS off 1M84 20.00 from Sheffield.
Having said all that, I notice that Phil does have a habit of listing things just as Cricklewood, rather than either the depot or Cricklewood CS.

With reference to 47196, there was a Leeds – Windsor & Eton Riverside Merrymaker, routed via the MML. 06.43 ex Leeds, 17.20 back from Windsor & Eton Riverside, 47196 time from Brent Curve would fit with this. Gen from Six Bells Junction.
With Reference to 45107, there was an LNER Society Charter “The North Easterner”, from St. Pancras to Newcastle. Gen from Six Bells Junction. In addition Dave Jolly has a photo of this on the approach to Newcastle on his flickr site.

Notes:
Regarding 45150, 45106 and 45118 on the last three evenings from Bedford to Cricklewood. I suspect these were all 5J88 19.32 Bedford – Cricklewood CS running early, (booked ECS off 2G18 17.12 St. Pancras – Bedford). Phil doesn’t note if this was Cricklewood station or Cricklewood CS, but I am assuming it was Cricklewood CS, based on the fact that nothing else really fits timewise.

The WTT timings for 0C25/4C25 are 0C25 18.40 Bedford HS – Luton, 4C25 20.00 Luton – St. Pancras (Parcels). Quite often in Phil’s notes this runs up to Hendon and back to Luton before working something similar to 4C25.
At some point during this timetable 4E09 20.30 St. Pancras – Bradford Forster Square was retimed to 20.45 from St. Pancras. The 1980/1981 shows 4E09 as 20.45.

The 1980 timetable change took effect from 12th May 1980.
Like the previous year, I have had another detailed look at what changes were made to the loco hauled “Bedford Commuters”. This information is from the 1980/1981 timetable and the relevant WTT. Although the timetable remained much the same, there was a reduction in loco hauled commuter sets, 2C18 07.28 Bedford – St. Pancras and 2G20 17.38 St. Pancras – Bedford were now booked DMU’s, 2C18 being recoded 2C20 as well. 2C21 07.40 Bedford – St. Pancras became 2C22. Two sets of stock were booked to run north on a Friday night, returning on Monday morning, to help out with the summer saturday timetable.
2C12 06.38 Bedford – St. Pancras, calls all stations to Elstree, arrive St. Pancras 07.56.
2C13 07.27 Luton – St. Pancras, calls Harpenden 07.34, St. Albans 07.40 arrives St. Pancras 08.06. stock forms 2G07.
1C05 05.44 Derby – St. Pancras, Bedford 07.14, Luton 07.38, arrive St. Pancras 08.18.
2C19 07.34 Bedford – St. Pancras, calls Harpenden 08.03, arrive St. Pancras 08.35.
2C22 07.40 Bedford – St. Pancras, calls all stations to St. Albans, arrive St. Pancras 08.54.
1C07 06.20 Nottingham – St. Pancras, Bedford 07.47, St. Albans 08.19, arrive St. Pancras 08.47.
1M03 06.08 Sheffield – St. Pancras, Bedford 08.06, non stop, arrive St. Pancras 09.02.
1C10 06.50 Derby – St. Pancras, Bedford 08.39, Luton 09.04, arrive St. Pancras 09.41.
2C34 10.00 Bedford – St. Pancras, calls all stations to Elstree, arrive St. Pancras 11.21, off 2G07 08.25 St. Pancras – Bedford.
Regarding the Bedford and Luton starters:
2C12 was formed off 5C12 Monday only (26th May – 8th September) 04.53 Nottingham CS – Bedford.
On Tuesday – Fridays and non summer Mondays, 5C12 was the 04.43 Cricklewood CS – Bedford.
2C13 was formed off 5C13 06.06 Cricklewood CS – Luton.
2C19 was formed off 5C19 Mondays only 04.28 Cricklewood CS – Bedford.
On Tuesdays – Fridays this looks as though it was formed off the previous days 1F07 18.19 St. Pancras – Leicester, which Fridays excepted was booked to return south as 5C12 20.40 Leicester – Bedford. On a Friday, 5C12 (also off 1F07) weas booked to return to Cricklewood CS.
2C22 was formed off 5C22 which was Mondays only (26th May – 9th June) 05.39 Derby Etches Park – Bedford, on Mondays (11th June – 15th September) this was 05.25 Nottingham CS – Derby.
On Tuesday – Fridays and non summer Mondays, 5C22 was the 05.16 Cricklewood CS – Finedon Road (run round) – Bedford.
1P12 16,24 St. Pancras – Derby, calls Luton 16.52, Bedford 17.16.
2G17 17.00 St. Pancras – Bedford, calls at St. Albans 17.20, non stop to Bedford 17.51.
2G18 17.11 St. Pancras – Bedford, calls St. Albans then all stations to Bedford 18.26.
1P22 17.26 St. Pancras – Derby, non stop, arrive Bedford 18.13.
2G21 17.54 St. Pancras – Bedford, calls Harpenden, Leagrave, and Bedford 19.01.
2G22 17.58 St. Pancras – Bedford, calls St Albans, Luton, then all stations, Bedford 19.14.
1F07 18.19 St. Pancras – Leicester, calls St. Albans 18.41, Luton 18.53, arrive Bedford 19.21.
The empty stock “plan” after arrival at Bedford:
2G17 formed 5C50 17.55 Bedford – St. Pancras via Finedon Road (run round) – St. Pancras as the stock worked 1P25 22.06 to Derby.
2G18 formed 5J88 19.32 Bedford – Cricklewood CS.
On Fridays (23rd May – 6th June) 2G18 formed 5P00 18.30 to Derby Etches Park, On Fridays (20th June – 12th September) it formed 5E29 18.30 to Sheffield for 22.53 Sheffield – Portsmouth Harbour.
2G21 formed 5J88 19.08 Bedford – Finedon Road (run round) – Cricklewood CS.
2G22, Fridays (23rd May – 5th September) formed 5D00 19.16 Bedford – Nottingham CS.
This still leaves one puzzle, there does not appear to be an ECS off 2G22 17.58 St. Pancras – Bedford (Monday – Thursday). With the mornig departures all accounted for I would have thought this would return to Cricklewood, but I cannot see a booked path for it in the WTT.

Notes:
Regarding 25140’s movements: In the WTT there is an 0C24 18.10 Bedford HS – St. Albans (via Radlett), light engine to work 4C24 19.03 St. Albans – Luton (Parcels), which then does 4C25 20.00 Luton – St. Pancras (Parcels). I assume the earlier start from Bedford was due to the need to run up to Hendon to access the “down line”. Times listed against 25140 are Phil’s.
