87015’s driver looks back prior to departure from Bletchley with the 0840 Euston – Carlisle
Me and Tony Ewer (RIP) armed with Persil tickets awaited the 0829 unit to Bletchley. In these pre MK happy days the local units terminated at Bletchley and a good few Inter City’s called there. 86210 was our onward power to Rugby where 304003 (its power car missing) and EPB 5430 were unusual sights, equally rateable 303066 was stabled in the South Bay.

The usual Cov-Brum stuff was enoyed, 81022 going forward on the 0740 Penzance – Liverpool was not well received, despite few “roarers” being out as the threatened 83001 was stabled in the loco holding sidings by the signal box.

The highlight was some table 51 steam action with 45019, 45064 and 46052 raked in on the Brum – Derby axis. A late evening half hour session at Rugby saw 81016, 85008, 85017, 86103, 86230, 87003, 87008, 87014, 87029 all viewed, this was the real West Coast of the time, happy days..
