Euston 40’s up to electrification on November 22nd 1965

Below is a list of well over 100 different 40’s that were recorded at Euston on passenger services up to final electrification in Nov 65. During November 65 with the wires going live 40’s at Euston went from common to pretty rare overnight and they were to remain rare until 40122 left Euston on the Pennine 40 tour on March 1988, the last recorded visit of the class until the 2000’s. The gaps are primarily Eastern or Scottish based 40’s which rarely strayed away from their home Region. The absence of D200-209 is interesting as up until 1966 these fine machines primarily worked out of nearby Liverpool St on Norwich services.

A real gem recvd with thanks from “60A”. Taken from the then footbridge at Ledburn (part of this bridge was later used at Leighton station) D305 passes the now closed Sears Crossing Box with the out of use goods loop also prominent. “60A” would welcome any help with a firm date of this classic local view , we think its around 1962. Ledburn Jn where the loco is crossing didnt go in until the early 70’s. …
