GCR Railcar Day and Quorn Bus rally, May 18th 2024

This superbly restored Bristol RE was apparently making her first runs in many years, TRY 122H loads up at Loughborough Midland on a shuttle to Quorn

Compared to horror stories coming from colleagues at the recent Swanage and SVR Galas, the GCR offered a more relaxed (and cheaper!) day out. Umpteen buses produced,  many working shuttles here and there, Bristol RE TRY 112H apparently making her first run in many years, not forgetting the Bristol VR EAP 984V thrashing big time!

Iris with retired Bletchley driver Phil Dormer in the chair, the blue 101 and the very popular 153 duo provided much of the rail action, not forgetting the 2 foot gauge Quarry Bottom loop line with Ruston 85049  providing the thrash at Nunckley Hill on the Mountsorrel branch.

Thanks to all involved for a cracking day.

Leicester depot put on a mini gala as i got off the 170 from Nuneaton, 37218 had dragged 37901 and 37407 off one shed road for 37407 and much clag to drag the trio back onto shed, nice!

Retired former Bletchley driver Phil Dormer is in the hot seat of Iris as she arrives at Rothley to work the 1052 to Loughborough

13101 the former Loughborough yard machine 3101 gronks off shed to shunt some stock at Loughborough Central, such an emotive sound…

I commuted for many years on Bristol VR’s so a run on EAP 984V brought back many memories, what Gardner thrash!

The blue 101 50266 and 50203 leaves Nunkley Hill towards the very tight clearence overbridge en route to Mountsorrel

Thrash of the day came from Ruston 85049 “Malcolm” doing 3 trips round the 140 yard circuit of the Quarry Bottom Railway, great fun!

Former Bedford – Bletchley machine 153371 with 153308 arrives at Rothley with the 1505 Loughborough – Leicester

Modern heritage 153308 and 153371 at Leicester North with the 1540 to Loughborough.
