A fine line up of power outside Toddington MPD on July 25th 2026 with 25262, 24081, 7018 and 26043 waiting their next workings
Our fast car courtesy of “TC” arrived at a virtually full Toddington car park around 0900 a bit earlier than expected. This gave me the opportunity a join a very quiet 0910 to Broadway with 26043 up front. Some decent thrash but using load 2 x 4 coach rakes on a Gala day made it a bit busy at times. The other 2 rakes were load 6 and 7. Even the bubble had standees!.
All 12 Glos-Warks main line locos (including the visiting 25, 27 and 35) were rostered to work on both days, giving a lot of choice. All were immaculate and driven hard where possible with a good few atmospheric loud thrashes through Greet Tunnel.

The day started with us flagging off 25262 and 26043 due to the wedge on the 0845 for some nice “tip top” mileage. As the day progressed it became clear the wedge was less than on the Friday and very few Tic-Toc types were hogging the front vestibules. The Narrow Gauge produced the usual Simplex beast “Brynglys”, great fun! On the TMD were several ex F n W Headboards, the “Western Finale” last being seen by me in February 1977! As the heat built during the day, in some ways it was a relief when we boarded our final run which was as good as all the others. Many thanks to all the Glos-Warks volunteers for such a cracking Gala.
