Kettlex’s get the decent modern traction, March 16th 2024
Recent “modern traction” tours have offered “sheds” and more sheds. Yet those booked on kettlex’s, the modern traction getting them to the point the kettle takes over is of little or no interest to most aboard.
The Winter Cumbrian Mountain pullman
After recent shambles where 86259 was blocked in at Rugby by a tamper, the superb 86259 “Les Ross” worked the Euston – Carnforth leg (and return) leg of this tour. Unlike Saphos the Railway Touring Company offer part fares so i enjoyed a Watford – Crewe “mileage move” behind 86259.
As usual, an immaculate 86259 arrives at Watford with the Winter Cumbrian Mountain tour

Unusually 86259 was stabled at Wembley HS for a few days after working the return tour, she is seen here on March 18th 2024, probably some years since an 86 was stabled here….

The Cotswolds Explorer
The perhaps overpriced Saphos tour got LSL’s 40013 on the Northampton – Hanwell loop (nr Maidenhead) leg (and return) before the kettle worked the tour to Worcester. So 40013 called at the likes of Leighton, Berko and Hemel yet the many diesel local enthusiasts had to flag it due high ching and possibly pompous consist!
Taken from 86259’s tour, 40013 heads South near Berko on the morning of March 16th 2024
My Lords, 40013 eases into Leighton and stops with a kettlex!

Clag (and thrash!) erupts from 40013 as she leaves Leighton with the return leg of the tour to Northampton
