A quick trip to Llangollen to sample 26010 thrashing through the Dee valley. Unfortunately 26010 expired on the 1100 departure at Llangollen goods jn (1/3 mile out) but to the Line’s credit after 08195 rescued the failure, 47449 produced for the rest of the day.
The 08 Berwyn shuttle was sampled, highly recommended, a deep grinding thrash up the hill in an open wagon right behind 08195. The 47 sounded good on 4 former Kings Cross inner surburban coaches which were well filled despite the late running.
A last laugh on the return run, the 158 should have made a plus 3 at New St onto the 1736 to Northampton. The 158 arrived in platform 2, the 8 car 350 in platform 3 opposite. The 158 was checked outside New St which put me onto a plus 2, running towards the unit with 20 seconds to spare, the guard closed the doors in my face. Cheers then, i rejoined the 158 and arriving at Birmingham Int’l the 1736 ex New St was still in on the opposite platform. The same guard passing through the train at Long Buckby looked shocked to see me……..
