Followed by some 31 action on 1MO7, bizarrely, a performance that sticks out in my memory as it was a Thornaby nb ped on a decent loaded set of mk2’s and it made a helluva racket all the way to Tile Hill, a lot of noise and smoke and a distinctly average speed! It’s the little things that people disregarded at the time, but when you think about the mundane scene today, it was awesome!

I recall sitting in the rear power car guards compartment for some reason, no idea why, and being utterly sold on the power of the mighty Valenta. The scream and acceleration were outrageous, being right next to the engine. Changed my mind about what a tech marvel HST’s really were, and actually a proper locomotive, even though we never really liked to admit the fact.
