
“Peaks on everything”, Saturday 3 July 1982
The gen from 2 sources the week before was that Saturday should see “peaks on everything” through Leighton. Monday July 5th was to see even more diverted traffic but a rail strike caped the 5th’s action. The diversions were needed because of remodelling the station throat outside Pancras. Many services were diverted via the Bedford-Bletchley, others via Leicester and Nuneaton. AC electrics worked many of these diversions forward. Whilst it wasn’t “peaks on everything” it was probably the most concentrated “peak” action through Leighton and at Euston ever. All 30 years plus ago now……………
