Freight sector class 85’1’s were 80 mph restricted , eh isolated 85’1s 85101 (85006), 85102 (85009), 85103 (85010), 85104 (85012), 85105 (85016), 85106 (85021), 85107 (85024) wdn, 85108 (85032), 85109 (85035), 85110 (85036), 85111 (85004) wdn, 85112 (85007) were all officially barred from passenger work by 1990.

Desperate Dave’s gen quote for the 0918 Crewe – Glasgow of 85011 was spot on! When 85011 roarered into Crewe 20 minutes before departure time, the driver wasn’t happy, down went the loco’s pan and down went our hopes, but no fault found and 85011 roared North in style on August 24th 1990.

Being a bank holiday weekend all the overnights were compulsory reservations and all were fully booked, the only overnight with no restrictions was 1D84 2200 Euston – Holyhead, was quite pleased when 85037 backed down onto this!
