Euston sees 2 “roarers” alongside each other possibly for the final time, 81012 left is on 5S05 Mail emcars, 85037 right has just roared all the way from Glasgow with the 1345 Glasgow – Euston Relief on August 24th 1990

Freight sector class 85’1’s were 80 mph restricted , eh isolated 85’1s 85101 (85006), 85102 (85009), 85103 (85010), 85104 (85012), 85105 (85016), 85106 (85021), 85107 (85024) wdn, 85108 (85032), 85109 (85035), 85110 (85036), 85111 (85004) wdn, 85112 (85007) were all officially barred from passenger work by 1990.

Desperate Dave’s gen quote for the 0918 Crewe – Glasgow of 85011 was spot on! When 85011 roarered into Crewe 20 minutes before departure time, the driver wasn’t happy, down went the loco’s pan and down went our hopes, but no fault found and 85011 roared North in style on August 24th 1990.
