Saturday Aug 1984, 7 bashers moves

Saturday August 18th 1984 moves and leaps

The main event of 180884!

Thanks to the efforts of some local bashers i have been able to list the moves of 7 local bashers on this sunny Summer Saturday. MIB (Bedford based) was in Scotland raking in much nb, DS (Hampsted) opted for a Brum-Sheff day return move getting somequality power.

Interestingly SC (Wolverton), TC (Bedford), TE (Dunstable) and me (Leighton) all did similar morning moves raking in the rare (to us) 25044 albeit only Wolves-Wellington. NE (Leighton) had a classic Cambrian Day out, raking in the rat mileage…..

TE (the late Tony Ewer) moves, (New locos for haulage in bold )

Tony always did the Friday night overnight on the “Mid”, getting back to Dunstable late on a Friday for an early start the next day wasnt for him. The desperate Wolverhampton waiting room overnight from 0200-0530 for Tony, not much doss.!

Tony did the rats, then made his way up to Nottingham for the 20s then raked in some nb 47 action. A good day for him as he scored 11 locos, including his last 86’2 , we all remember clearing our 86’2s!!

SC’s Moves

The previous day was perhaps better but 2 new rats, 6 winners in total, not bad..

Its weird, in one way it seem so long ago, in another way just like yesterday.

TC’s Moves

25044+25175 were a popular choice that day, 25265+25287 were a double dud pair on the 10.10 ex Aberystwyth, 25268+25313 were 10.10 ex Euston pair, 25313 being a winner at the time which I scored on the Ratcatcher tour. I guess if 25313 had been on the 10.10 ex Aberystwyth then I would have gone to Welshpool for it. The Derby – Skeg was 20084+20188 and the Leicester Skeg was 20143+20150, both these pairs having been sampled over the previous couple of months.

I very rarely used to log my HST’s or DMU’s, normally it was just the standard HST or DMU written down which is something I regret down. Looking back I wish I had logged the coaching stock as well.

DMU car 53321 which was sampled that day is now preserved on the Great Central, after being taken into the departmental fleet as 977900. the other vehicles were not so lucky.

NR’s moves

Well after severe hassle from the girlfriend it looked like a days shopping rather than bashing was on the agenda a few days before. I restricted my Evening Cobbler leaps that week and in the end she relented providing i was home for six!,

A good, if too short a day with a winning “”rat” and two 20s in the book and a lot of 310 mileage!

NE’s moves

We were staying in a caravan in Church Stretton, think Dad drove me to Shrewsbury, I don’t think there was a train from Church Stretton in time for the early morning Aber. My mum was with me for the last two pairs of rats-she became an honorary member of the Rat Roadshow! I remember there was a 40 at Shrewsbury station when we got back for the Crompton, think it was 004 but not sure.

Happy days!
