Scottish power variety, July 29th 1983

290783 moves,  Scottish coastal variety.

My “All line Rover” began at Crewe with a quality train namely 1E24 2250 Shrewsbury – York. The power tonight was poor in 47590 but an interesting route via Stockport, Reddish South and Guide Bridge was taken in the NW. A busy Kings X – Aberdeen overnight was joined at Leeds with me grabbing a table vacated by some Leeds folk. On departure i noticed a handbag on the seat opposite me, so i put it on the rack and dossed out.

i awoke at York not by an engine change but by station staff searching the train! On giving them said handbag 47417 was soon storming North again. I next awoke at Edinburgh to join the morning’s “circuit” power on the Edinburgh – Dundees. This was as enjoyable as ever, the highlight being a bellow from the Tay Bridge at the resident seals sunning themselves on a sand bank below at low tide..

Afternoon generator power on the Dundee-Montrose line saw more “newies”, then “nb” power in ex Landore 37196 on the 1918 Dundee – Glasgow. Back at Edinburgh 27004 was scratched all time in insect style to Haymarket, 27004 was also steaming the stock. 47406 returned me South on another busy East Coast overnight.

A good day with 13 locos sampled including 5 “tippies” (newies underlined)

27004, 27012, 27018, 27021, 27050, 37196, 47405, 47406, 47411, 47417, 47421, 47469, 47590.
