By December the majority of the “pendo’s” umpteen teething problems had been sorted and it was a case of chasing the “sevens” on their remaining West Midlands turns. We still also had the “Cobblers” on our doorstop and the booked EWS 90’s still misbehaved allowing 87 substitutions! Willesden depot’s line off off lease “sevens” grew during the year, a depressing site. A problem in the grey days immediately after Xmas with track conditions in the New St area after a big dig, saw 87’s return to scream down the Trent Valley in some numbers for the last time .
