Southern 313 bash, June 2021

Southern 313s bash, June 2021

19 class 313 units were transferred to the Southern in June 2010 after being repainted at Wolverton works and fitted with new style 377 seating at Doncaster works prior to their reintroduction on May 23rd 2010

The former Bletchley based Silverlink sets of 313101-117 and 119-120 now renumbered 313201-313217 and 313219 and 313220. 313201 was repainted at Wolverton works in blue and grey in Dec 2017 but she wasnt viewed on this trip South.

The 313s monopolise Brighton – Seaford and Hove – Brighton services. They also work many “Coastway” services as far West as Portsmouth Harbour.

This was my first trip behind 313s since their retirement on GN services in September 2019. The familiar power car pops, rolls and growls soon brought back the memories. The Southern scenery of coastal running and the Sussex downs made a nice change from Moorgate and Gordon Hill!

313217 arrives at the superb Lewes station with the 0607 Brighton – Seaford on June 18th 2021

313203 at the seaside terminus with the 0723 Seaford – Brighton on June 18th 2021

313211 at Brighton after working the 0925 Seaford – Brighton with 313203 alongside on June 18th 2021

313220 again at Brighton with the 1400 Brighton – Portsmouth H mileage move on June 18th 2021

313214 at Hove with the 1428 shuttle to Brighton on June 18th 2021

313207 leaves Newhaven Town with the 0655 Seaford – Brighton on a dull June 19th 2021

313206 at Seaford about to depart with the 0731 Seaford – Brighton on June 19th 2021

On December 22nd 2017 313121 dragged newly repainted 313201 South as 5Z32 Wolverton – Lovers Walk, seen here in fading light at Leighton Buzzard.
