Stratford depot log and memories, January 30th 1971

From my diary for the day our first visit to Stratford,  “got taken round shed and got 54 cops there, it is a brilliant place”.

To a couple of very keen and impressionable 13 year old spotters to see, once coming out of the tunnel under the station, past the DMU’s in the old steam shed,  and then spotter’s heaven, line and lines of power, unforgettable….

Stratford depot Phot spot

John Williams visited Stratford 2 years later and these photos add that bit more to my 1971 log…..

D4192 (later 08958) was the last 08 built and was on Stratford depot on January 30th 1971 and on November 3rd 1973 when photographed by John and still in green livery too.

Most of us who visited Stratford in the 70s will remember long lines of class 31’0 “toffeeapples”, here John Williams captures 5501 (later 31001) at the head of a long line of her classmates on November 3rd 1973

Again on November 3rd 1973 John captures 5599 (later 31178) and other classic classes on the refuelling roads at Stratford.

much more Stratford depot reports and phots to follow
