A bit of a mystery train this one from the logs of John Bull with thanks. This train was presumably Mk I’s as loadings varied from load 8 -9. We assume the train stopped at Winchester and Basingstoke en route to Farnborough where JB joined. After Farnborough this Mon-Fri peak hour service called at the unit dominated Brookwood, Woking and Surbiton.
JB has only 20 logs of the train between Oct – Nov 73 but this working produced at least 15 different locos incl class 33, 73 and 74 suggesting an early morning ECS turn from Clapham Yard to Soton to form the 0728. This may have been a temporary vice unit turn hence it’s short term nature.

Any more gen on this fascinating Southern working very welcome…

Thanks to John Williams for this fine view of 74004 which worked the 0728 as E6104 at least once, is seen in Clapham yard on July 2nd 1977, a few months before withdrawl.
Sad Footnote – The 0728 ex Soton served Woking which for a while was the base of well respected enthusiast Dave Newman who sadly passed away a few days ago…….
