A bargain £35 one way tour from Kings X to York with a very relaxed 1510 departure time off the Cross. Once on the move 40145 was opened up, to cheers from many aboard as that deep throaty thrash filled Copenhagen tunnels and our early Mk II coach! My colleague (sadly no longer with us) quietly whispered our speeds were a bit “04” like as far as Stevenage. A bellow passing Hitchin shed, then once clear of Grantham we stormed, including a loud non stop run through Donny.
A few phots at a now dark York and we shuffled off to find the B n B for service trains back to Luton on HST’s the following day. 40145 did the main tour to Liverpool St and Anglia the next day, this didnt appeal to us, a fast thrash down the ECML perhaps being much more rateable.
