The “Ten Counties” Railtour remembered, Saturday 12th May 1984
A classic multi traction, circuitous routed tour from BR Watford who deserve great credit for celebrating in style the very last day in service of the old Bedford St Johns station plus lots of freight track with a local flavour. 5 of the 11 Midland Mk I rake were compos (compartment coaches) and we quickly bagged one near the front for “ped thrash!” With myself, Tony Ewer and Mr Donnelly doing our best to look unwelcoming, nobody dared invade our compo on a “sit where you want railtour”!. One of our local “top men” and still a “logs” contributor was a steward for the tour which saw much amusement! The ching was a very reasonable £13, the sun shone all day and the tour atmosphere was excellent all day. Doing Bletchley flyover twice morning and afternoon was particulary well received as was the local “rat mileage” on offer. Great fun!
