Many thanks to Jim Burton for these classic logs
Now, the enclosed logs….we throw up our hands in amazement at the loadings of the Caledonian sleeper (Highland edition!!). But in the “bad old days” a couple of Type 2 diesels used to be faced with loads not dissimilar from this every night SX!! Regret do not have relevant WTT for Summer 1969 but I would reckon that the timing load was something similar. 580 tons allowed for 16 vehicles……17 or more entitled you to ask for a third Type 2!! In those days the 1900 Euston left from Platform 2 and the first thing one looked for was….how many vehicles were off the country end of the platform?!! Enough of setting the scene (!). what was the reality?
