The trip began, as usual with the 0818 from Luton, 45138 obliging. At York 40086 produced on a Liverpool – Newcastle, a good omen perhaps? At Leeds a dull but required 47537 worked the 1810 Carlisle then stupidly took non required 55019 to Harrogate on the Down Yorkshire Pullman, although this would proove my first and last Deltic to Harrogate. Late running by 55019 meant she missed the forwarding York connection, so it was a DMU back to Leeds for a much better 47291 on a Doncaster bound overnight

Overnight saw the Hull papers behind 31272 again, then to Huddersfield for 31410 on the Halifax – Kings X portion. On this i passed Healey Mills copping 37246 here (only 6 37s to go now!) A 2 hour spell at Wakefield Kirkgate brought much 37/40 action.

Then covered 2 40 hauled reliefs raking in 40040 and 40080 but missed 40004 on a Liverpool- Newcastle. The once solid York – Shrewsbury “mails” appears to be 40’s no more,47294 producing tonight on the Mails.

At Doncaster around 1am i got my first ever shunter haulage with the Bradford – Paignton portion shunt with 08876. The Doncaster – Hull got a disappointing 47215 but reasonable doss. During the day much quality power with 37015 and 40085 perhaps the best apart from split box 40127 on the Skipton leap.
Skipton’s fish and chips were quality too! The obvious bashing problem realised itself today of only being able to be in one place at a time, At least 3 x 40’s were missed including 40004,
40092 and 40190 but so be it. Some good overnight bashes on the Bradford line with 31’s then down to Doncaster after a record 18 locos for haulage in a day.

Sunday August 28th 1977
Met Tim at Doncaster and we both did the Cleethorpes overnight again. Cleethorpes around 6am at high tide was empty, cold, windy and drizzly. Back at Doncaster in warm sunshine 47372 on the 0930 Edinburgh offered some very rare Knottingley 47 haulage. Most of the local bashers were Sheffield bound for the 20’s and hoped the Scottish region wouldn’t pinch 372! Later on 47094 replaced a failed Peak at Leeds, 1 hour down. 40057 was bashed to Darlington where 40026 was copped for sight on parcels here. Back to York, then Sheffield, followed by Peaks back to Luton
This Rover was a bit short at just 4 days but with a 2 week Scottish bash starting a few days later i needed the funds and sleep!,
