25185 stars at the Spa Valley, Sat 23rd September 2023

A rare farce free run from Leighton to Eridge on the big railway, my luck was in as the following East Croydon – Eridge was caped. This Model railway weekend drew huge crowds particularly at Tunbridge Wells where the depot was full of model railway stands, the resident locos having been dragged out to nearby sidings.

Locos out.

Phots from the day

A nicely restored former Southern PMV van S1249 now resident at Eridge

The star of the day for me, 25185 at Eridge with the 1100 to Tunbridge Wells

1317 thumps out of Groombridge with a busy 1100 Tunbridge Wells – Eridge

With no Tic-Toc veg around, i got the rare oppurtunity to sample the lead droplight window of the 1100 ex Eridge throughout. The loud 25185 is opening up leaving the Groombridge slack, she is clagging nicely, the sun was beating down, the wind disturbed what little hair i have, but boy, what thrash…..fantastic!

Normals clogging up the platform at Tunbridge Wells

The loud thumper 1317 at Tunbridge Wells with 1230 to Eridge, loud normals aboard were saying “its just a commuter train”!!!

As the rat backs on 31430 and the Drewry are viewed at Tunbridge Wells

1317 looking and sounding the part at Eridge

25185 leaves Groombridge loop with the 1400 Eridge – Tunbridge Wells

At least you could get near the model railways at Groombridge, an operational 13191 (became 08124) looking good for the model’s age

Lengthening shadows on 25185 laying over at Eridge

The kettle Hunslet Austerity 2890 which i managed to avoid steams out of Eridge with the 1530 to Tunbridge Wells
