3 DB 90’s go for scrap, April 2024

Always depressing to see locos you remember from new going for scrap but no real suprise in that 90030, 90033 and 90038 are for the cut after open air “storage” at Crewe EMD for almost 20 years.

90030 – New to Willesden on May 29th 1989, a classic mixed traffic machine until stored in January 2006.

Nocturnal Northampton. 90030 has arrived with 1W99 1822 Euston – Northampton “Cobbler” service on January 27th 2005. These loco hauled “Cobbler” services were a 9 month long SRA driven iniative to cope with Pendolino capacity and 350 unit delivery issues. The “SRA Cobblers” were booked EWS 90’s but many 87’s deputised.

90033 – New to Willesden September 1989 again a classic mixedtraffic machine until stored in April 2005

From a time when EWS Freight Sector 90s were regulary hired to Anglia, heres 90033 at Stowmarket with the 0830 Liverpool St – Norwich on January 17th 2004.

90038 – New to Willesden April 1990 and after a few months building up mileage on Inter City turns she soon became a freight/parcels loco with occasional hireouts to Passenger duties as shown in image below. Stored July 2005 a very short 15 year career for this once fine machine…

90038 approaches a pre noise bund Ledburn with 1M16 2040 (15/6) Inverness/Aberdeen/F.William – Euston in the National Express Scotrail era on June 16th 2004. 90038 was stored a year later and sadly that was that for 38.

Unfortunately more DB 90’s are expected to follow this trio….
