Class 33 for sight …
I started spotting in Sep 69 but unfortunately most of my log books prior to April 72 have been lost. So heres my Crompton’s spots from April 72, with 6528/33111 the last one in the book 5 years later. An awful lot of the Hither Green machines were viewed in the evenings at Luton where a 33 worked North each evening to Luton returning with the Dunstable – Northfleet cement empties.
The entry for 6588 (later 33203) is especially interesting as the loco was viewed daytime at Old Oak Pill Box. This superb spot was next to the GW main line with the WLL, the tube and Park Royal mainline all within spotting range. The site has only recently succumbed to HS2 works. Anyway 6588 was viewed presumably on an inter regional freight to Acton on the WLL before heading light to Luton where we viewed her stabled prior to working the cements…

33111 waits at the temporary Dunstable Kingsway platform (behind 4TC) with an “ADAPT” Dunstable – Portsmouth ADEX on May 8th 1988. Whilst 33’0/2’s occasionally visited the Dunstable branch on cement, “bagpipes” were very rare, especially on passenger!

33206 was specially requested for Bedford Open day because of her rarity value. The big “slim” is seen on display in the goods yard at Bedford Open Day on May 28th 1988
