Whilst the stations South of Shrewsbury have had and continue to have loco hauled trains, the likes of Yorton, Wem, Prees and Wrenbury in modern times do not.

From the 1978/79 timetable above the 1508 Cardiff -Crewe called all shacks Shrewsbury – Crewe and likewise the return 1930 Crewe – Cardiff also called all shacks Crewe – Shrewsbury. Other Marches services regulary called at Wem and Whitchurch too. Throw in a few failed DMU drags and these tiny stations in 1978 saw quite a variety of power making their booked stops there, no sticking your hand out to stop the train back then at the likes of Prees then either!
